This year was an adventure. Most years are, but 2016 was just a lot of endings and beginnings that brought me sadness and joy in turn. This year, I’ve:
Dated a few lovely people and realized relationships are not my priority at the moment
Got accepted to college
Earned a Scholastic Arts Award for poetry
Graduated high school
Vacationed with some of my best friends
Found a new favorite genre of music
Left everything behind to go to Houston for college
Drank a lot of coffee and breakfast tea
Befriended the most amazing people
Took part in some of Rice’s coolest (and weirdest) traditions
Wrote for our literary blog & won a writing contest
Got a few boo-boos
Worked at my first job
Fell in love a few times with people and places and ideas
Went on countless adventures
Lost my glasses
Ate my first Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit from Whataburger
Took some pretty freaking cool classes
Watched Fantastic Beasts and Rogue One and loved every minute
Spent my first Thanksgiving away from home with one of my best friends
Realized how much I love archaeology & the study of the past
Collected enough poetry and writing to fill a portfolio
Spent four months away from home and returned triumphant, tired, and happy
Earned a 4.0 GPA
Started this blog!
It’s been wild. It’s been both too much and not enough; and here, now, standing on the edge of these two colliding years, I am content and I am grateful -- for the mistakes I’ve made and the successes I’ve created. I have so many plans and goals going into 2017 and I’m so glad that I have another year and another chance to do the things I love. My goal has always been to make each year better than the last, and I’m ready to do the same with 2017.
Have a happy and safe New Year’s! Make 2017 beautiful. Love yourself and those around you. Celebrate life, always.
See you never, 2016.
